The Parlour at Decoy Country Cottages is a two bedroom holiday cottage in the picturesque Boyne Valley in County Meath, sleeping five and rated four stars with a Gold award. It sits within the peaceful Decoy courtyard in the County Meath countryside, with views over fields, farmland and garden, and it combines the comforts of home with genuinely rural surroundings. Navan, a charming riverside town, is a fifteen minute drive away, and Dublin is only about fifty minutes by car, which makes this a practical base for a break that mixes countryside with city days. Up to two dogs are welcome.
The living areas are on the ground floor with the bedrooms above, which gives the sleeping accommodation a degree of privacy. Downstairs there is a spacious living room with comfortable sofas, a television and a cosy multifuel stove, and a generous country style kitchen and diner with granite worktops, fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge freezer, electric hob, oven and microwave, seating six. A handy downstairs toilet completes the level. Upstairs, the first bedroom is a double with a pocket sprung bed and an en suite bathroom containing a corner bath; the second is a flexible room with zip and link beds that can be made up as a double or as two singles, plus an additional single bed, with an en suite wet room fitted with a rain shower, basin and WC. Underfloor heating runs throughout, along with wifi, digital television, a coffee maker, towels, bed linen, a welcome pack, a cot, high chair, stairgate and board games.
Outside, guests can relax in the courtyard, which is car free and safe for children, and there is a secure shared garden, a patio, a barbecue area and a fire pit. The shared facilities at Decoy add a great deal: a gym, a games room with a pool table, table tennis and table football, a children's playground with swings, a trampoline, a basketball net, football goals and giant Jenga, and treatment rooms offering spa treatments at additional cost. Small farm animals can be met on site, the location is dark sky friendly, and there is parking for two cars with an electric car charging point. Level access runs throughout the ground floor, with grab rails by shower and toilet, a shower seat and a walk in shower. Short breaks are available all year round, midweek and at weekends.
The Boyne Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape and one of the richest archaeological areas in Europe, with Newgrange, Knowth, Dowth and the Bru na Boinne visitor centre close at hand, along with the Hill of Tara, the Hill of Slane, Loughcrew Cairns, Monasterboice, Old Mellifont Abbey, Kells with its round tower and high crosses, Trim Castle and heritage trail, Athlumney and Dunsany castles, Slane Castle and Distillery and Beaulieu House and Gardens; Tayto Park is the obvious outing with children. Dublin, less than an hour away, offers Trinity College, Dublin Castle, the Guinness Storehouse, EPIC the Irish Emigration Museum, the National Gallery, St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublinia, the National Botanic Gardens, the zoo, the Jameson and Teeling distilleries and plenty of good pubs. Golf, angling, coarse, fly and river fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, karting, archery, paintballing, tennis, swimming, hiking and bird watching are all available nearby, with restaurants and cafes in the nearest town within ten miles and Drogheda fifteen miles off.
