Beggars Barn sits in three and a half acres near the pretty village of Shutford, four miles from Banbury and within easy reach of the Cotswolds. It sleeps from four to thirty across three separate lets: the main house, the Stables annexe and a two-bedroom summer house, with ten bedrooms in total, all en-suite. It holds a Gold award, is allergy friendly and does not take pets. The centrepiece is an eighteen-metre outdoor heated swimming pool, open roughly from mid-April to mid-October.
The main house sleeps six to eighteen and has plentiful living space: a huge live-in Smallbone walnut and silver kitchen with a dining area for up to twenty-two, opening into a snug with a wood-burning stove, a formal drawing room with a second stove, and a separate dining room seating sixteen. The kitchen is fully equipped with Villeroy and Boch cutlery, crockery and glassware, two ovens, two sinks, two dishwashers, a tall fridge and freezer and wine fridges. There are three en-suite bedrooms including the master and a family suite, three further doubles one of which opens onto the gardens, a family bathroom and two cloakrooms.
The Stables annexe sleeps four to eight, with two en-suite double bedrooms and a huge open-plan living room with a bar, a three-in-one games table for table tennis, air hockey and pool, a 75-inch television with Sky and BT Sport, large sofa suites with luxury double beds on memory foam mattresses, disco lighting for a party, a kitchenette and a shower room, plus a veranda overlooking the garden. The Summer House beside the pool is a self-contained cottage sleeping four, or six with extra beds on request, with two bedrooms, open-plan living and kitchen and a shower room. All bedrooms are made up with Egyptian cotton linen and towels, with toiletries and hairdryers provided, and seven have zip-and-link beds for super-king or twin configurations.
Outdoors there is a great deal to keep a group occupied: the heated pool, a hot tub, a gym with an elliptical trainer, weights, rower and vibration plate, a sunken trampoline, outdoor table tennis, croquet, badminton, boules and a football net, plus a large lawn for cricket and football. Dining outside runs to a flat-plate gas barbecue, a fire-pit wood barbecue, a seventy-centimetre gas paella dish and a charcoal barbecue inside an Arctic cabin, with huge outdoor sofa suites, dining tables and party lighting. There is a walled garden, patio, veranda, sun loungers and parking for up to fifteen cars.
A pub sits in the nearby village, with the George and Dragon half a mile away and the Castle at Edge Hill, the Red Lion at Bloxham, the Wykham Arms at Sibford Gower and the Boxing Hare at Swerford all within a few miles; Banbury, four miles off with the nearest station, has a wide choice of restaurants and takeaways. Oxford is twenty miles, Stratford-upon-Avon seventeen, and Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold about fifteen, with Blenheim Palace and Fairytale Farm nearby. The owners take hen parties, birthdays and corporate stays.
