About Hafod Grove Mansion House

Hafod Grove is an old mansion house in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park near Moylgrove, sleeping eighteen across seven bedrooms with five bathrooms and a Gold award. It stands in over an acre of private grounds with distant sea views, reached by a seventy metre private drive, in a coastal and rural position between the market town of Cardigan and the village of Newport, both under five miles away. The house has grown over several centuries, with sixteenth to nineteenth century fabric, original features and period decoration, and it is set up unashamedly for large groups: holidays, reunions, celebrations and anniversaries.

The heart of the house is the huge kitchen and dining room, thirty three feet by fifteen, with two ten foot dining tables seating twenty four between them, an electric range cooker with double fan ovens and five burners, and an Aga for the winter months, along with a dishwasher and microwave. An arched hallway leads to two reception rooms, both comfortably furnished for a large party, both with open fires and double aspect views over the gardens; the first has a large television with Sky on demand, sports and films, plus a DVD player. The second doubles as an optional seventh bedroom with two day beds and a bed settee. On the ground floor there is a small double bedroom close to the shower room and all amenities, useful for older or less mobile guests, a cloakroom and a shower room. A main staircase with easy low rise treads leads up to the master bedroom with a double bed, cot and distant sea views and an en suite bathroom with a double ended antique bath and power shower; a family bedroom with a double and a pair of trundle beds; a large family bathroom with a double shower and a six foot Victorian bath; two twin bedrooms with en suite shower rooms and garden views, one with a spare trundle for a child; and a small double overlooking woodland.

The grounds include a large lawn with a climbing frame and swings, a small wooded area, a patio and garden furniture, all separate from the neighbouring cottage but combinable by opening a pair of seven foot gates. An attached annexe, Hafod Fach, is available for larger groups, with its own kitchen, dining area and reception room. Free private parking is ample, there is a laundry room, and wifi, digital television, bed linen, a cot, high chair, board games and books are provided. Up to three dogs are welcome, for a charge in the main house, with dog friendly walks within fifteen minutes. The location is dark sky friendly, the house is decorated for Christmas, and short breaks are offered midweek and at weekends in low and mid season.

Ceibwr Bay, a famous local beauty spot with extraordinary rock formations, is within walking distance, on a stretch of coast path with some of the finest scenery in the county; red kites fly over the house, and seals, dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks and occasionally whales and turtles are seen offshore. Three sandy beaches including Poppit Sands and Newport Traeth lie within four miles, with caves, rock pools and safe bathing. Cardigan has its castle, shops, theatre, gallery, bars and restaurants; Newport has a boat club and a golf club, both open to visitors, with a fine view across the bay from the clubhouse. Cilgerran Castle, St Dogmaels Abbey, Castell Henllys Iron Age fort, Pentre Ifan burial chamber, the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Folly Farm, Oakwood, St Davids Cathedral and Georgian Aberaeron all make good days out. Walking, cycling, horse riding, coasteering, kayaking, archery, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, golf, gliding, caving and fresh and sea water fishing are all available locally.
