Farleyer Lodge is a nine bedroom house two miles from Aberfeldy in Highland Perthshire, set within seventeen private acres and sleeping eighteen. It is rated four stars with a Gold award, and it exists to solve a particular problem: how to get a large family or a group of friends under one roof without anyone feeling squeezed. There are two large lounges, a spacious kitchen built for group self catering, a dining room set up for the whole party to eat together, and an eight person hot tub outside for the end of the day. Fast wifi runs throughout, which matters when eighteen people all want it at once.
The nine bedrooms are a mix of twins and doubles, most of them en suite. On the first floor, where all the bedrooms have their own bathrooms, are a master with a four poster bed, two twin rooms and a king size room. The second floor holds a room with zip and link beds that can be made up as a twin or a super king, a king size room with en suite, a twin and a king sharing en suite facilities, a double bedroom and a family bathroom. That spread of room types makes the house work for several families travelling together as easily as for one large group. An open fire, a piano, a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, washing machine and tumble dryer are provided, along with digital television, towels, bed linen, a welcome pack, a cot and a high chair.
Outside there is a shared garden, a patio and a barbecue, and the private hot tub, which seats eight and is well placed for a soak after a day on the hills. The grounds run to seventeen acres, so children and dogs have room to themselves. Level access runs through the ground floor with one ground floor bedroom and bathroom and grab rails by the shower, though there are steps up to the property. Secure free off road parking is provided, the location is dark sky friendly, and the house is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas. Up to two dogs are welcome, short breaks are available all year round, and hen parties and birthday celebrations are accepted.
A pub lies within a mile, with dog friendly and country pubs and restaurants nearby and more eating out within five miles. Aberfeldy, two miles away, was made famous by Robert Burns and is now Scotland's first Fairtrade town and home of the Black Watch, six miles from Loch Tay with its watersports, sailing and ancient crannogs. Glen Lyon to the north is one of the loveliest glens in Scotland, and the Cairngorms National Park is about thirty minutes away. Pitlochry, with its theatre, dam and fish ladder and two distilleries, is close, along with Castle Menzies, Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery, the Birks of Aberfeldy, Blair Castle, Killiecrankie, Queen's View, Ben Lawers, the Hermitage at Dunkeld and Scone Palace at Perth. Hill walking, golf, fishing and fly fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, white water rafting, boating, watersports and wildlife watching are all on offer, and Pitlochry is the nearest station at ten miles.
