Emma's Dairy is a seventeenth-century barn conversion at Alkington Grange, one of five on a hundred-acre family-run working farm a couple of miles from Whitchurch in north Shropshire. It sleeps five in three bedrooms, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award and takes one dog, which makes it a straightforward choice for a small family with the dog in tow.
A step leads into an open-plan living space with a wooden floor throughout: a living area with a thirty-eight-inch Freeview television and a Blu-ray and DVD player, a dining area, and a kitchen with a breakfast bar, electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
Upstairs are three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single, served by a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a heated towel rail, which can also be reached directly from the double. Maximum occupancy is five guests plus one infant, with travel cots, a high chair, a stairgate and a welcome pack available.
Outside is an enclosed garden with a patio and furniture, plus private parking for three cars beside the barn. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and superfast broadband are included, along with a bike store, a shared utility with coin-operated tumble dryer, a coin-operated electric car charging point and a security deposit; there is a fenced pond in the grounds fifty yards away and the barn is non-smoking. Guests use the site's shared leisure facilities: an indoor heated swimming pool of about 7.5 by 3.5 metres, open all year with exclusive slots booked on arrival, a multi-sports court for tennis, badminton, basketball and short football, a play area for under-fives, a birdwatching area, a BBQ lodge with brick-built barbecues, a woodland picnic site and a hundred acres of natural grounds. Good walks run from the farm including the Shropshire Way and the Whixall walk, the Shropshire Union Canal is five minutes away, coarse fishing is under five miles and horse riding a mile and a half. Whitchurch, two miles off, has independent shops, pubs and restaurants, and Alderford Lake, Ellesmere, Chester, Shrewsbury and Ironbridge Gorge are all easy days out.
