Oliver's Mill is a barn conversion at Alkington Grange, one of five sharing a courtyard on a hundred-acre family-run working farm near Whitchurch in north Shropshire. It sleeps ten in five bedrooms with three bathrooms, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award and takes one dog. Exposed beams and brickwork run through most of the rooms.
The ground floor is one open-plan space: a living area with a wood burner, a forty-two-inch Freeview television, a Blu-ray and DVD player and a wooden floor, a dining area alongside it, and a kitchen with two electric ovens, an electric hob, microwave, American-style fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a separate snug with its own television and, usefully for a group of this size, a ground-floor shower room with a heated towel rail. Initial logs for the burner are included.
Turning stairs lead up to five bedrooms: a king-size with an en-suite shower cubicle and heated towel rail, two doubles, a further double with a sloping ceiling and access from one side only, and a twin, served by a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Maximum occupancy is ten guests plus one infant, with a travel cot, high chair, stairgate and welcome pack provided.
Outside is an enclosed garden with a patio and furniture, with ample parking. Oil central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and superfast broadband are included, along with a bike store, a shared external utility with coin-operated tumble dryer, an electric car charging point and a security deposit; the grounds hold a fenced pond and the barn is non-smoking. The shared facilities across the site are what set these barns apart: an indoor heated swimming pool, roughly 7.5 by 3.5 metres, open all year with exclusive slots booked on arrival, a multi-sports court for tennis, badminton, basketball and short football, a play area for under-fives, a birdwatching area, brick-built barbecues, a woodland picnic site and a hundred acres of grounds. The Shropshire Way and Whixall walk run from the farm, the Shropshire Union Canal is five minutes away and the Mercian Cycle Path passes it. Whitchurch is a couple of miles off with shops, eateries and black-and-white buildings, and Chester, Shrewsbury and Ironbridge are all within an hour's drive.
