About 48 Swain Street, Watchet

48 Swain Street is a stylish holiday house in the harbour town of Watchet on the west Somerset coast, arranged over three floors and sleeping eight in four bedrooms, every one of them with its own en-suite. It holds a five-star rating and takes up to two well-behaved dogs. There is no garden, but good dog-friendly walks start within a couple of minutes' walk.

The house has a cosy, quirky feel throughout. There is a lounge with comfortable sofas and a spacious, well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast table. All four bedrooms have king-size beds, and each en-suite comes with a slipper bath, a walk-in shower, a hand basin and a WC, which is a genuinely generous arrangement for a party of eight. Wifi, central heating, bed linen and towels are included, along with a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, and there is an electric vehicle charging point; guests bring their own beach towels.

Watchet packs a great deal into a small town. There is an active marina, a steam railway station, the old port, two museums, shops, restaurants, pubs and takeaways, and the East Quay hosts a genuinely interesting programme of exhibitions with local, national and international artists and artists in residence you can talk to. Daily sea fishing trips head out from the marina. For bargain hunters there is an antiques shop at one end of town and Rogers, an Aladdin's cave of collectables, upstairs in the marina.

Walks run along the Mineral Line, up around the church and along the rope walk across to Doniford beach, or you can simply sit on the Esplanade and watch the harbour. The house is close to all of it. With Exmoor to the east, the Brendon Hills to the south and the Quantocks to the west, it is a strong base for exploring, and Minehead is nine miles along the coast.
