Swallow's Orchard is a single-storey five-star holiday home on an old dairy farm at West Bradley, down a quiet lane in the Somerset countryside, with a long view across to Glastonbury Tor. It sleeps six in three en-suite bedrooms, all on the same level, and it holds a Gold award. Two of the beds are kings and two are singles, and cots are available.
The heart of the house is a substantial open-plan kitchen, dining and living space separated from the courtyard garden by five-metre bi-folding doors, so on a good day the two run together as one room. The finish throughout is deliberate rather than generic: a high-end kitchen with white quartz worktops and wood-grain units, and a master bedroom with a granite waterfall wall. There is a wood-burning stove for the colder half of the year, wifi and Sky television.
The courtyard garden is enclosed and has a hot tub for the evening and a fire pit for when the weather allows. Beyond it the property is surrounded by rolling green farmland with open access to a range of walking routes. Guests also have use of the Sedum Spa next door, a shared facility for everyone staying on the site, which has a chlorine-free indoor pool, a Nordic hot tub, a sauna, a gym, four treatment rooms and a relaxation room; towels, robes and flip-flops are provided at no charge.
The house takes up to two dogs, and there is parking, a patio and an enclosed garden. There is a pub within a mile, with the Manor House Inn at Ditcheat and the Red Lion at Babcary both recommended locally. Bath is thirty miles away, Castle Cary the nearest station and Bristol the nearest airport. Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Longleat and the Roman Baths at Bath all make comfortable day trips.
Additional charges: No additional cleaning fees.
No bed linen fees.
