About Woodlands High Quality Farmhouse sleeps 14
Woodlands Farmhouse sits on a former dairy farm outside Bridgwater in Somerset, with views across open country to Glastonbury Tor. The house was stripped back and rebuilt over two years, and the work was done with an eye on what was already there: inglenook fireplaces, an old bread oven, original flagstones and wide elm floorboards all survived the refurbishment. It sleeps fourteen across seven bedrooms and welcomes dogs.
All seven bedrooms are en-suite, two of them sharing Jack-and-Jill access, and each has been furnished individually rather than to a single template. There are four king rooms and three twins, among them an open-plan bedroom with a wet room and a four-poster room laid with the original elm boards. One bedroom sits on the ground floor with its own wet room, which suits anyone who would rather avoid the stairs. Downstairs, a bespoke kitchen with an Aga and granite worktops opens into a dining room seating fourteen, and there is a library with flagstone floors alongside a separate lounge and a room with a fifty-inch screen and deep swivel chairs that works as a cinema.
The games room holds table tennis, table football and darts, and there is a Nintendo Wii for wet afternoons. Outside, a courtyard patio has garden furniture and a barbecue for eating out, and an eight-seat private hot tub for the end of the day. Children have a play area with swings and a slide, and the hundred acres of farmland around the house give you somewhere to walk the dog before dinner.
Guests also have access to Sedum Spa, fifty metres away on the same site, where the shared facilities include an indoor swimming pool. Bath is around twenty-five miles off, Castle Cary is the nearest station, and Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, the Mendip Hills, Wookey Hole and Longleat are all within range for a day out. There is a pub within a mile of the door.
