About Apple Cottage with Hot Tub
Apple Cottage stands on its own in the Somerset countryside near Pylle, between Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary. It began life as a farm worker's cottage and has been rebuilt from the ground up, and the result has more in common with a small boutique hotel than with a typical rural let. It sleeps four in two bedrooms and takes up to two dogs by arrangement.
Both bedrooms are en-suite: a master double with a roll-top bath set in the room, and a twin. The kitchen was clearly put together by someone who cooks on holiday, with a bespoke butcher's block, a retro fridge-freezer, a good solid kitchen table and cupboards that are actually stocked with useful equipment. The materials and furnishings throughout are a step above the norm, and each room has been styled individually rather than matched up.
The room guests tend to remember is the Green Room, where bi-folding doors open straight onto the garden, the hot tub and the fields beyond. The hot tub sits outside on the terrace, which is where most evenings end up. There is a private enclosed garden, a balcony, parking, wifi, a wood-burning stove for colder months and Sky television indoors.
The cottage works well for a couple who want more room than a bolthole gives them, a small family, or two couples travelling together. Somerset walking country starts at the gate, and there is fishing, horse riding and golf close by. Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, the Mendip Hills and the Fleet Air Arm Museum are all within reach, and Bath, with its Roman Baths and Royal Crescent, is around twenty miles away. The Manor at Ditcheat is the local recommendation for eating out, and the Glastonbury Festival, the Glastonbury Extravaganza and the Bath and West Show all fall within driving distance.
