Grace Cottage is a stone-built terraced cottage in the heart of Porlock village, tucked away from the main road down a stone walkway called the Drang. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award and takes up to two well-behaved dogs. The ground floor was opened up about a decade ago and the cottage was refitted again in 2018, which is why it feels considerably lighter and more spacious than its footprint suggests.
The open-plan living area is on the ground floor. The sitting room has comfortable sofas, an HD television with Chromecast, a soundbar, a DVD player and a log burner, and the kitchen, new in 2018, has an electric hob and oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and a full complement of utensils, crockery and glassware, with the dining area beside it. Upstairs are a double and a twin bedroom, and a recently updated bathroom with a powerful shower over the bath and a large towel rail.
Wifi, electricity from 100 per cent renewable sources and electric storage heating are included, along with wood and kindling for two fires, bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels; bring your own beach towels. A complimentary starter of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits, seasonings and household basics is left ready. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 10am, and dogs must stay downstairs and are not to be left alone in the cottage.
Outside is a private enclosed courtyard with outdoor seating surrounded by a mature shrub bed. Two designated off-road parking spaces are available at Central Garage a short walk up the High Street, with a closer drop-off point for unloading. Everything in Porlock is reachable on foot: the village is a working Exmoor village with three pubs, two grocery shops, a post office, a traditional butcher, a chemist, a cash machine, a hardware shop, a visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Minehead, five to seven miles away, has the larger supermarkets and high street banks. Exmoor National Park is all around, with Dunster Castle nearby, and walking, cycling and wildlife watching in every direction.
