Knowle Manor is a large country house in the Aville valley near Dunster, within Exmoor National Park in Somerset. The house stands in its own grounds, surrounded by Exmoor's woods and hills, with lawns running out to the trees and a lake feeding the river that flows on towards Dunster. The setting is rural and secluded, around a mile from the village and its castle, and roughly two miles from the coast. There are 20 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and the house takes groups of 20 to 53 guests, who have the whole property to themselves.
Accommodation is arranged over the house with en-suite bathrooms throughout, several with power showers, and a ground-floor bedroom suitable for guests who find stairs difficult. Heating is central, and there is an open fire in addition. The dining table seats up to 50, served by a well-equipped catering kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. A heated indoor swimming pool and a games room with a table tennis table are available to guests, along with televisions and wifi throughout the building. Outside there are gardens, a patio and extensive grounds of around 100 acres, with a private car park giving ample space for a group arriving in several vehicles. Bed linen and towels are supplied, and a cot and high chair can be provided for younger visitors.
The size of the house suits extended family gatherings, milestone celebrations, wedding receptions and corporate events, and short breaks are possible as well as longer stays. Children are welcome; dogs cannot be accommodated. Dunster, a mile away, has a castle, a yarn market and a choice of pubs and restaurants, with a pub within a mile of the house. The Dunster Show takes place in August and Dunster by Candlelight falls on the first weekend of December. Walking on Exmoor, golf, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, archery, clay pigeon shooting and sailing can all be arranged locally, and Dunkery Beacon, Wimbleball Lake, the West Somerset Railway, Exmoor Zoo and the nearby beaches are all within reach. The nearest railway station is Taunton.
